Panic Attacks - Psychiatry Case Series - Case 2
CASE OF PANIC DISORDER & DEPRESSION:
Success story of a Patient
Seeing patients get better with treatment & therapy gives us immense pleasure, Alhamdulillah! I recently was treating a patient around 40 years of Age from Hyderabad with Depression & Panic disorder Online. He consulted me online in July after that i started him on medications. Later on in August i started Therapy sessions online & after 2 sessions, he was showing much improvement. In my last visit at MG Hospital Tolichowki in September, he consulted me offline and he was so happy about his improvement, Alhamdulillah! .
He said "Doctor saab aap se first consultation ke time baat kare jab hi aisa laga ki meri aadi bimari khatam hogyi, Alhamdulillah!" and started giving me lots of duaa.
CASE HISTORY:
He was devastated when he first experienced panic attack(signs mentioned below) in month of April & misinterpreted it as heart attack, he had constant fear of having another attack, he stopped going out of home and closed his business & slowly over the days due to his constant overthinking and negative thoughts developed symptoms of depression secondary to his frequest panic attacks like
>low mood, decreased interest in pleasurable activities,
>low energy & weakness,
>getting easily frustrated,
>feeling anxious all the time,
>he was not able to sleep during night.
>decreased his food intake,
>was not interacting much with his family members
He suffered from panic attacks almost every day of his life & that was increasing his fears even more & developed a Constant Fear of death .He also developed worthlessness, Hopelessness & Helplessness.
He didn't go out of his home even for Salah . He was constantly feeling low, thinking about his health & a constant fear that he would die.
He consulted many doctors like general physician, Cardiologist & gastroenterologist and gone through multiple tests like blood tests, ECGs & 2D Echo multiple times. But even when these tests were normal he was not assured even after multiple assurances from doctors that he don't have any heart problem or any other problem. He also went to multiple faith healers(aamil) for spiritual treatment & spend lot of money there as well with no result.
Doctors even adviced him to consult a Psychiatrist but out of stigma he didn't consult a Psychiatrist & delayed it, thinking Psychiatrist are only "Pagalo ke doctor" which is myth. But one of his relative attended my mental health awareness session & took my number and insisted him to just consult me once. Then later on he consulted me online & started treatment and therapy. And within 1 & half month of treatment and 2 therapy sessions, he was showing 70-80% of improvement.
His mood improved, started interacting with family members, he was going out for salah, reconnected himself with Allah swt with Salah & Quran. He was also meeting friends & doing householdchores. His frequency of panic attacks came down & later he was not having any panic attacks after one month of treatment. Now he is also planning to re-start his business to get himself busy & trying to live his life with purpose.
